
The first of Offenbach's outrageously funny "send-ups" of Greek mythology,
this is an unashamedly Gallic version of the classic legend of Orpheus's pursuit of his
wife Eurydice, who is carried off to Hades by Pluto - much to the annoyance of Jupiter.
Contrary to the mythology, in this version Orpheus and Eurydice absolutely hate each other.
A highly disrespectful romp, it involves nymphs, shepherds, gods and goddesses, with the fun
reaching its climax
in the riotous revels of a bacchanalia to the well-known tune of the "Can-Can".

If you'd like to join in, auditions for the principals are on Monday
15th September 2008, at
the Maybury Centre in Woking. You'll need to print off the
Audition Application Form. The audition pieces are listed
here.
There will be a Sing Through of "Orpheus in the Underworld" on
Monday 1st September (new members especially welcome!) and of Audition Pieces on Monday 8th September, for those
who'd like a little practice before the auditions are held on the 15th.
Please note that there
is an
audition fee of £10 (10 GBP), but this will be taken off the member's fee both for successful
applicants and also for those applicants who are unsuccessful, but who join the chorus.
